A visit to the Ethnographic Museum in Zagreb feels like opening a treasure chest full of stories. The moment you step inside, you’re surrounded by colorful costumes, shiny jewelry, and all kinds of handmade objects that people once used in their everyday lives. Instead of just reading about history, here you actually get to see it – up close and in full color.
The main exhibition has some really cool highlights. First, there’s a whole collection of traditional costumes from different parts of Croatia, each with its own colors and patterns. Then you’ll spot beautifully carved wooden tools and furniture that show how creative and talented people were in the past. And one of the most exciting parts are the big festival masks that look like something out of a fantasy film – they were worn to scare away winter and bring in spring.
After we’ve explored the museum, we won’t just rush off. We’ll head to a nearby café, sit down together, and chat about what we liked the most. It’s the perfect way to relax, share impressions, and maybe even discover that someone noticed something you missed.
Anyone currently learning Croatian at CLA can participate free of charge.
Additional individual costs like admission tickets, food or drinks need to be covered by each student individually.
Even though student participation in the activities is free, it is mandatory that you sign up at least a day in advance.
Inform your professor if you want to participate, and they will add you to the list.
