Join us for a relaxed walk through the heart of Zagreb, where language learning meets local discovery. Our journey begins at Zagreb’s Main Railway Station (Glavni kolodvor), one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. Built in 1892 in an elegant neo-Renaissance style, the station has long served as the main railway hub of Croatia and a welcoming gateway for travelers arriving in the capital. Standing in front of its impressive façade and looking out toward King Tomislav Square, we’ll start our walk while sharing a few stories about the history of this vibrant part of the city.
From there, we’ll stroll toward the leafy paths of Zrinjevac Park, one of Zagreb’s most beloved green spaces. Part of the famous “Green Horseshoe” of parks that shape the city center, Zrinjevac has been a favorite meeting place for locals for over a century. With its beautiful tree-lined promenades, fountains, and charming music pavilion, it’s the perfect spot to slow down, take in the atmosphere, and practice a few Croatian phrases together while enjoying the rhythm of the city.
Our walk will then continue to the lively Dolac Market, the city’s most famous open-air market and a colorful hub of everyday Zagreb life. Known for its iconic red umbrellas and vibrant stalls, Dolac has been bringing together local farmers and city residents since the 1930s. Here we’ll explore the sights, sounds, and flavors of the market while discovering a bit more about local food culture. After soaking up the atmosphere, we’ll finish our outing the best way locals know how—by sitting down together for a well-deserved coffee and good conversation.
Anyone currently learning Croatian at CLA can participate free of charge.
Additional individual costs like admission tickets, food or drinks need to be covered by each student individually.
Even though student participation in the activities is free, it is mandatory that you sign up at least a day in advance.
